AKC Report 1/12/07
Dear SVCA Members, Below you will find the AKC report for this period. We will need to file one more prior to our full recognition 6/27/07. You will note that this one is brief, as is every other one filed. Our last one will encompass much more. Two points of information I wish to share: 1.Info from AKC 11/30/06: Due to a question from a member, I asked Mari-Beth O'Neill of AKC about our currently registered dogs in FSS receiving AKC certificates and a statement explaining our being in the Studbook as of March 1, 2007. Ms. O’Neill’s response: re: certificates: "The new certificates will be mailed to the owners, there is no charge for this service. The date suggested for entry into the studbook is March 1, 2007, however this may be changed as a result of other work." re: studbook: the studbook " means that all dogs registered after March 1, 2007 will receive a registration certificate and all litters registered should be done on an AKC Litter application. The fully recognized date (of 6/27/07) is the date the breed will be eligible to compete in the Herding Group." 2. Another member question/comment: this was from the General Mtg Minutes of 11/06, which I received on 1/8/07 for this report: are we eligible for herding titles? I checked again with Mari Beth O’Neill and she advised that the information of 9/05 has been changed. Per new rules re: herding: "Section 3. Eligibility of Dogs. All dogs nine (9) months of age or older that are registered with The American Kennel Club and classified as Herding Dogs under Chapter 3 of the Dog Show Rules, Samoyeds and Rottweilers and Herding breeds eligible to compete in the conformation Miscellaneous Level, are eligible to participate in herding tests and trials. " On our website, I will post the PDF of these new rules. I have already submitted it to the board and questioning member. Please, if any member has a question or concern re: our AKC status, contact me by email svcags@comcast.net or by phone 586-7913299. I will find out the correct response and immediately notify: the member who stated the question; our board; our newsletter and post on our website. Thank you. Gail Smyka REPORT The American Kennel Club Mari-Beth O’Neil Director of Special Services January 12, 2007 This report includes information covering the Swedish Vallhund Club of America (SVCA) through December, 2006. Currently the AKC reports 675 Swedish Vallhunds registered in the USA with 672 of them having three-generation pedigrees. Enclosed are our Membership and Household Lists as well as the AKC requested USA map indicating members-in states. We have 121 members and 101 households. Also enclosed are updated SVCA Board minutes, General Mtg Minutes, a new Policy and Committee reports. Copies of our Ballot for our September, 2006 election, as well as election results, are included. One major project these past months has been our National Specialty in Tulsa, Oklahoma November 1 and 2, 2006. This was our largest specialty ever. We had 24 dogs and 24 bitches at our Independent Specialty. Regular and non-regular conformation classes were held as were obedience, agility and herding. Our major events form (included) lists a synopsis of what was held and a complete listing of the event, including our premium list and catalogue have been included. We also participated in the AKC Tulsa Cluster Shows during this time. Our Illustrated Standard /Pictorial Committee continues to work with the AKC to prepare the AKC’s website materials and judge education materials regarding the Swedish Vallhund. Rosemary Martino, our Chairperson of the Judge Education Committee continues to be active in having seminars regarding the SV. She has held seminars in New York City, NY; Louiseville, KY; Cleveland, OH; and Fort Worth, TX. Our SVCA Members have participated promoting the SV in dog shows in Florida and Hartford, CT. On October 28th, our Board member, Deborah Harper participated in a large Pet Expo in Hartford, CT. This was part of a showcase of AKC Breeds and was organized by the South Windsor KC and the Windham County KC. Ms. Harper passed out much information and her SV was greeted by 250 -300 ‘new friends.’ Needless to say, we have been thrilled by the AKC Board’s October, 2006, vote allowing the Swedish Vallhund to compete in the AKC Herding Group as of June 27, 2007 and look forward to that date. We realize that we are working to complete projects with the AKC and our currently assigned people; if there is anything else necessary for us to do, please advise us. We remain confident and eager to achieve our goal of full recognition for the Swedish Vallhund. Thank you. Respectfully,
